Subaru has added a new electrified powertrain to the XV compact crossover, the e-Boxer, combining an electric motor with Subaru’s horizontally-opposed Boxer engine and the Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system. Using the Subaru Global Platform, the XV boosts its safety performance and gives an involving driving experience. To aid safety the XV e-Boxer comes as standard with Eyesight driver assist technology and Subaru Rear Vehicle Detection.
The XV e-Boxer uses a 2.0 direct injection horizontally-opposed petrol engine in conjunction with an electric motor. Under the floor of the boot is a lithium-ion battery giving the ability to use electric-only driving up to 25mph. To improve handling Subaru has used a symmetrical layout for the new technology, the heavy motor has been placed at the vehicle’s centre of gravity with the battery placed above the rear axle. The XV transitions seamlessly between EV and Engine powered driving.
The XV e-Boxer can deal with the most extreme weather conditions that are thrown its way, having ground clearance of 220mm, permanent Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive and X-Mode. It also has a towing capacity of 1,270kg.
The XV e-Boxer earner the maximum five-star rating in the Euro NCAP test. It features many safety systems, such as; EyeSight driver assist technology, which uses two stereo cameras mounted to the rear-view mirror to scan the road ahead for hazards (up to 110m away), the system features; Adaptive Cruise Control, Pre-Collision Braking, Pre-Collision Throttle Management, Lane Sway and Departure Warnings, Lane Keep Assist and Lead Vehicle Start Alert.
To aid economy the XV e-Boxer has a new front grille, which features an active grille shutter and new low-profile roof rails to improve aerodynamics. A new foglight surround has also been added, the rear spoiler endplate is now finished in gloss black and the e-Boxer badge now appears on the wings and tailgate.
