Smart EQ News
The new smart EQ range has just gone on sale, featuring an 82 hp electric motor sending the power to the rear wheels through a single-speed gearbox. It is available in the smart fortwo coupe, fortwo cabriolet and forfour, with all models having a range of around 70 miles and a top speed of 81 mph, which is limited electronically.
The EQ uses a 96-cell lithium-ion with a 22 kW onboard charger, which allows for the battery to be charged in under 40 minutes (from 10% to 80%) using a rapid charger, when using a normal home wall box it will charge in under six hours.
To set the EQ variants apart they have been given a unique front bumper and grille painted in the body colour, new halogen headlights with LED daytime running lights and new halogen taillights. It comes in four different trim levels; passion advanced, pulse premium, prime exclusive and the edition 1.
Coming as standard on all models; multifunction leather steering wheel, rear parking sensors, smart media system (navigation with charging station finder, 7” touchscreen, BlueTooth, automatic climate control, DAB, Android Auto and Mirrorlink) acoustic presence indicator and comfort package.
Passion advanced comes with 15” four-spoke alloy wheels and black fabric upholstery with white double-stitching. Pulse premium adds 16” twin-spoke alloy wheels, stainless steel sports pedals, a storage net on the centre console and a rear-view camera, a panoramic roof is also added. Prime exclusive models gets even more; 16” eight-Y-spoke alloy wheels, full LED headlights, ambient lighting, auto-dimming interior mirror, heated seats, black fabric-trimmed dashboard and door centre panels and leather upholstery.
The smart EQ edition 1 is available on the fortwo coupe and cabriolet comes in asphalt grey with radiator trim in black, high-gloss black decals, BRABUS spoiler and side skirts and 16” BRABUS alloy wheels.
The smart EQ range is on sale now and starts at £16,850 for the smart fortwo coupe and £17,285 for the forfour, both prices include the PICG grant of £3,500. First deliveries are expected in March.
