The Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio have both been given a new interior look for 2020. Holding on to the dynamic driving style and Italian design cues, Alfa Romeo has improved the interior of both cars using a new layout and materials. Adding a new ADAS system giving level two autonomy, the infotainment system has also been refreshed, adding more connected services and a more user-friendly human-machine interface (HMI).
Using an 8.8” central display which is now touchscreen and features a new layout which can be customised by the driver dragging and dropping apps, a simple design which people are used to when using a smartphone. The rotary knob has been updated, giving the driver the option of using it or the touchscreen to control the infotainment system.
At the centre of the instrument cluster is a new 7” TFT screen, which is standard across the range, has a newly designed layout to give the driver more information, as well as meet autonomous driving technology parameters.
The quality of the interior has been lifted with the addition of a new centre console to accommodate larger and easier to access storage compartments as well as a new wireless charging function. A new leather gearstick with luminous highlights and an Italian flag at its base has been added, the infotainment system rotary knob control has also been updated giving a more refined feel. The steering wheel has been redesigned to allow for functions and sensors for the autonomous driving systems.
The 2020 Giulia and Stelvio introduce the Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) giving them both the highest level of autonomous driving currently legal, this allows the vehicle to take control of the accelerator, brake and steering in specific conditions, the driver still has to keep their attention on the car to make sure it is working correctly, always keeping their hands on the steering wheel. Some of the technologies which allow for autonomous driving are; lane keep assist, active blind spot, active cruise control, traffic jam assist and highway assist and driver attention assist.
A new range structure has been used for both the Giulia and Stelvio, with more simplified trim levels. As standard across the entire range, the new Stelvio now includes; rear parking camera, bi-xenon headlights and electronically folding mirrors. On the inside the new infotainment system with 8.8” touchscreen is standard.
Alfa Connected Services also come as standard on the new Giulia and Stelvio, giving a boost to safety and comfort. My Assistant is a function which allows the driver to make an SOS call at touch of a button or automatically when an accident happens. My Remote which can be used to set speed and area limits and check the location of the vehicle sending alerts if the vehicle breaks any of the limits set.
The new Stelvio will be available to order in January 2020, first cars will be delivered during January, the new Giulia will follow later in the first quarter of 2020.
