BMW has just revealed the latest X5 M Competition and X6 M Competition, this will be the third generation of their high-performance Sports Activity Vehicle and Sport Activity Coupe respectively. The X5 M Competition and X6 M Competition will share the same 625hp, 750Nm 4.4-litre V8 engine, which is a 50hp increase over the previous models.

The engine will be paired to an eight-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic, using BMW’s rear-biased M xDrive all-wheel-drive system. This drivetrain gives a 0-62mph time of 3.9 seconds for the X5 M Competition and 3.8 seconds for the X6 M Competition, which is 0.4 seconds faster than the outgoing model.

Both models have M-specific adaptive suspension with electronically controlled dampers, active roll stabilisation and M Servotronic steering. They will also feature staggered lightweight alloys, 21” at the front and 22”. M compound brakes are used to give a proper bite and gives feedback on the pedal feel.

Both cars will feature some standout body designs with some signature M features such as; large air intakes, kidney grille, M gills on the front wings, roof/rear spoiler, rear diffuser and double twin-pipe exhausts.

The interior also gets the M treatment with BMW Head-Up Display with M specific readouts, multifunction seats and BMW Individual Merino full leather trim. Different modes for the engine, dampers and steering can be used and two M buttons on the steering wheel can be programmed to the driver’s custom settings for each. M mode allows the driver aids to be adjusted, readouts on the instrument cluster and Head-Up Display to be customised. There will be ROAD, SPORT and TRACK settings.

As standard on both the X5 M Competition and X6 M Competition are; BMW Live Cockpit Professional and Parking Assistant.

The X5 M Competition and X6 M Competition will make their debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show 2019. Prices will start at £110,610 OTR for the X5 M Competition and £113,310 for the X6 M Competition. Both will be available from April 2020.
