Have you ever wondered who would win in a race between a BMW X6M, Audi RSQ8 or a Porsche Cayenne Turbo S? I didn’t think so, but we have the answer! Well, actually Mat Watson of Carwow has the answer. They lined up the three cars on a dreary wet day, Mat in the BMW, and his ever-faithful friends Yianni and the ‘faceless man’ in the Porsche and Audi, respectively.
The numbers are always important when it comes to a drag race, but in the wet, which of these sporty SUVs would fare best?

All 3 have 4-wheel drive and an 8-speed automatic gearbox. The Porsche tops the list for power thanks to its electric motors, but it is by far the heaviest and most expensive of the three. If I were a betting man, I would probably stick with Porsche at the start of this race, as the electric motors help to put the power down quickly and effectively.
The first run always roots out the cheaters, as Mat jumps the gun in the BMW! He went on to win that run, with the Porsche coming in second and the Audi bringing up the rear, but of course a re-run was inevitable. The second run doesn’t benefit the Porsche any better, as the line-up doesn’t change at the chequered flag, although the Porsche’s launch control failed at the start, apparently…
Finally, they got a perfect run, but once again, the BMW just about comes out on top with the Porsche and Audi coming in second and third. It seems that the BMW’s acceleration off the line is far superior to the other two cars, in the wet at least. So, the BMW completed the ¼ mile in 11.8s with the Porsche hot on its heels finishing in 12s and the Audi coming in at 12.3s.
The next race is set as a rolling start from 50mph in comfort mode and fully automatic. This time, the electric motors in the Porsche really show their colours, pushing Yianni into first place. It didn’t last long though, as the BMW once again comes roaring back to win the race. So, 4 races and 4 identical podium finishes! In the words of the ‘faceless man’ in the Audi, “it’s a really comfy seat to watch you two have a race!”
The final race was another rolling start from 50, but this time in sport mode, and we get a different result! The Audi bursts into the lead early on, but it is the Porsche who wins in the end with the BMW coming in second place.
The last test of the day sees the guys line up for a brake test from 70mph. The weight could really play a factor for this, especially seen as its wet. The Audi is the lightest, so you would expect it to claw back some pride in this one! It finished very close indeed, but the BMW took the victory with the Audi making it up to second place for this challenge!
Overall, the winner was clearly the BMW X6M. You may say it was only because it was wet, but you don’t always drive in the dry in the UK as we all know very well! Shout-out to Carwow for making this awesome video, as they always do. Have a watch of the race here.
